• MUSINGS: Our Psalm today recalls the yearnings of the Jewish people for Zion (Jerusalem) during their period of exile in Babylon after the destruction of the temple in 597BC. Their captors mockingly ask them to sing one of ‘Zion’s songs’. But it is not easy to find the heart to sing while living on foreign soil. Let’s remember all our emigrants today, many of whom have relocated abroad simply out of necessity. ‘I haven’t seen my family in over two years’, one Irish immigrant in Australia remarked, ‘we try to Skype as much as possible, but sometimes you would just love to give your loved ones back home a big hug and be hugged back.’. •  NEW GUIDELINES REGARDING BAPTISM: From September 2014 on, baptisms will take place at scheduled times in the parish. They will take place on Sundays at 1.30pm sharp.

  St. Mary’s Church, Swanlinbar: 2nd Sunday of the month.

  St. Naile’s Church, Kinawley: 3rd Sunday of the month.

  St. Patrick’s Church, Killesher: 4th Sunday of the month.

  All baptisms must be booked a month in advance with the parish secretaries. For a Swanlinbar baptism, please contact Bernie each Tuesday on 0499521221 (10am-1pm) For a Kinawley/Killesher baptism, please contact Helen each Wednesday on 02866348250 (2.30-5.30pm) As there may be one or more children for baptism, in fairness to the officiating priest and also other parents, please make sure that everyone is there at 1.20pm, so as to be able to start sharp on time at 1.30pm. The Baptismal course which takes place on the Wednesday after the first Sunday is compulsory for all. The dates of the courses are published in the weekly newsletter and also on the parish website. Even if parents have done the course for their first child, the parents or someone from the family is expected to do it for subsequent children – e.g. godparernts or other family members. This is the policy worked out in conjunction with neighbouring priests. Please let others know. Next dates from September on for baptisms in the parish:

  Killesher: 28th September 2014 – 1.30pm sharp

• KILMORE DIOCESAN PASTORAL CENTRE EVENTS - National Heritage Week Event – Fr. Liam Kelly will give the guest lecture on “William Hague (circa 1836-1899) – Architect of St. Patrick’s College and many of Cavan’s Finest Buildings” on Tuesday 26 August 2014 in the Pastoral Centre, Cavan, at 8:00p.m.  All welcome and admission is free.

• Fund-Raising Vintage & Classic Car, Motor Cycle, Tractor and Machinery Display on Sunday 31 August 2014 from 11:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. in the grounds of the Pastoral Centre, Cavan.  A great day out for all the family.
