MESSAGE FROM BISHOP MARTIN HAYES

Arising from the latest Government decision of Oct 5th 2020 to place all counties in the Republic on Level 3 we are obliged to move all Masses and liturgies online until October 27th 2020 with the exception of Funerals, Weddings and Baptisms for which there is a limit of 25. It means that in the interest of public health we will not gather for weekday or Sunday Masses for the next three weeks, until October 27th 2020, as efforts continue to stem the escalation of the coronavirus.  However, churches can remain open for private prayer. I am conscious, at this time of writing that public Masses can go ahead in the Northern Ireland jurisdiction. While it is regrettable that we have to suspend our gatherings for the Eucharist once again, with its consequent impact upon the life of our parish faith communities, let us resolve to support the efforts to ensure the safety of those most vulnerable to COVID-19. This is a time of testing and we must remain strong in trusting the Good Lord, who is with us.

“I mean that the point of all our toiling and battling is that we have put our trust in the living God…” (1 Tim 4:10) Bishop Martin Hayes

We must follow these guidelines but obviously these restrictions do not apply to the northern part of the parish, pending any further directions from this jurisdiction. Fr Maurice McMorrow

4. St Mary’s Swanlinbar, Apostolic Society: On Sunday 27th September we had a donation box after Mass in the chapel. This was a wonderful success. Altogether £1,396.36 donations were made including private donations. All this money goes towards work in the missions in different countries and the Silver Mass Cases to the priests working in those areas along with our beautiful vestments.

All these vestments and Altar Clothes were made by our wonderful lady Byril Cassidy and her helper Martina Owens. Byril also knitted baby hats in all colours as well. The amount of work that went into the sewing and knitting was amazing. We thank you Byril and Martina. They were all beautiful. We also want to thank Marion and Colm Cullen who gave us the use of the shop window to display all the vestments, they were so kind and helpful. Our Vestments, Altar Cloths and knitting have been given to the Apostolic Team in Cavan. All donations have been given to the treasurer Ann O’Hara, Apostolic Team, Cavan. Thank you so very much for your support in such difficult times. The fruits of your generosity will go to the missions in Africa & South America.

The Apostolic Team, St Mary’s Swanlinbar

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18th

This weekend parishes in over 120 countries will celebrate World Mission Sunday. World Mission Sunday is a direct appeal from Pope Francis to give what you can so that overseas missionaries can reach and care for suffering men, women, and children.

On World Mission Sunday, all Mass collections, including those from the most impoverished churches in the developing world, will be offered to help further the reach of missionaries and mission. This appeal is a life-line, not only for missionaries but also for the future of the Church. Worryingly, it faces a crisis. The worldwide pandemic means that less congregations can physically attend Mass, resulting in fewer offerings in the basket. The implications for suffering overseas communities in the months ahead will be devastating. Please, if you can, be extra generous this weekend. Your kindness will be used to fund the work of overseas missionaries who serve in some of the most impoverished and overcrowded communities in the world. To give what you can donate at www.wmi/mission, call Fiona in World Missions Ireland on 01 497 2035, or lodge money directly: IBAN - IE12 BOFI 9007 5456 9616 36, BIC - BOFIIE2D, Account Name - Society for the Propagation of the Faith.

In 2019 our parish donated €1,916.95 to World Mission Sunday. We ask you to continue your support for World Mission Sunday by filling your Mission Sunday envelope and putting it in the weekly collection basket or dropping it through the priest's letterbox. Thank you for your ongoing support.
