20th December 2020

Fourth Sunday of Advent

Celebrating Christmas 2020 safely

It will be impossible for our usual large congregations to attend Mass on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Therefore, parishioners are encouraged to avoid overcrowding in churches at Christmas:

- Families are welcome to attend Mass at some point during the twelve days, from Christmas Eve to Epiphany on 6 January 2021 or

- by participating via Webcam in their local parish. In that regard, families are urged to gather for Mass at home or in their ‘household bubble’. Also, parishioners can be urged to pay a visit to their local church at some time during the twelve days to offer a Christmas prayer at the crib while keeping a safe distance.

Confessions may be heard after all Masses upon request along with the times outlined below.

Places of worship will open as normal under strict guidelines after St Stephen’s Day. Tighter measures will be in place for a week from 26 December with no gatherings allowed between 8:00pm and 6:00am so we have to take this into consideration for Vigil Masses (see times).

Dispersal time after Mass, 2 metre social distancing guidelines and sanitising of hands is important.

Important to emphasize that parishioners are welcome to any of the Masses in the Churches of the Parish. We hope we will be able to adequately cater for those who wish to celebrate Christmas in the Church. Note extra Masses on Christmas Eve are in the larger Churches in the parish. There will be a first come first served basis in each Church. If the church is full when you arrive parishioners are welcome to stay in their cars and first holy communion will be distributed at the main doors. The Masses in St Naile’s Church will be available to watch on the webcam as normal.

We hope these arrangements are helpful. We wish all parishioners and family members a very happy, holy and peaceful Christmas. May the joy, hope and love that comes from God fill you this Christmas season.
