28th March  2021

Palm Sunday

Retirement of Fr Benny Fitzpatrick and some Parish liturgy changes.

Fr Benny Fitzpatrick has made the decision to retire as Curate of Our Parish due do to ill health. He has served his parishioners and indeed the Diocese with great faith over the years and in particular the last 6 years in our parish. We thank him sincerely for his dedicated service and will continue to pray for him.

We are now able to resume public worship in the Churches in Northern Ireland with use of designated seating points. Families/households may sit together in their “bubbles” as before. As of yet we are unable to resume public worship in St Mary’s Church, Swanlinbar until the restrictions are eased in the Republic of Ireland.

At a recent Pastoral Council meeting I assured the group of my intentions to continue the current level of service with some liturgical alteration, given that I will now be alone. Following consultation with the Parish Council and taking account of the continuing regulations in place, the Easter Ceremonies will be primarily held in St Naile’s Chapel Kinawley as outlined below because of the availability of the Webcam (with the exception of the Stations of the Cross). Confessions in St Nailes Tuesday @ 7:00pm. (2 Priests) We however encourage people to attend the ceremonies in person if at all possible.

With all the regulations in mind the following times will initially be introduced for the Weekend Masses commencing the weekend of 10th/11th April:. Weekday masses will then be announced going forward.

St Lasir’s Church, Wheathill: Saturday Evening Vigil at 6.00pm

St Mary’s Church, Swanlinbar (when permitted to reopen): Saturday Evening Vigil at 8.00pm

St Patrick’s Church, Killesher: Sunday Morning at 9.00am

St Naile’s Church, Kinawley: Sunday Morning at 10.30am

We are conscious of the large number of people who are joining our celebrations from their own homes via the Webcam and these changes should be ok for the time being. It is Important to emphasize that parishioners are welcome to any of the Masses in the Churches of the Parish.  We hope these arrangements are helpful and we look forward to times when we can worship together without the need for current restrictions.
