Choosing Godparents:
• There are two godparents, who should be chosen based on one’s ability to help you raise your child in the belief and teachings of the Catholic Church. While the godparents may have a social role, this is their primary responsibility.
• Godparents should be active in the practice of their faith, in order to be able to fulfil this important role, otherwise in the words of the old Latin maxim: ‘Nemo dat quod non habet.’ (You cannot give what you don’t have).
For the day of the Baptism:
- It is optional, but if you wish, you can select one Old Testament Reading, one Responsorial Psalm, and one New Testament Reading and a Gospel. Also select a person to do the readings and the prayers. The priest reads the Gospel.
- Are there any special saints’ who are significant to you which should be added to the Litany of the Saints?
- Make sure to bring with you the Baptismal candle and also the card with the details for the baptismal register. Arrive 5 minutes early and give card to the priest in the sacristy.
- You are welcome to bring a holy water bottle with you and fill it with the baptismal water.
